Lily Owens is a 14-year-old white girl who has a very complicated relationship with her father and feels guilty about her mother’s death. In a time when ethnic discrimination is a rule in the south of the U.S.A., Lily runs away with her black tutor and housemaid Rosaleen, in search for information about her mother’s past, and they both end up being harbored by the black beekeeper sisters August, May and June Boatwright. And that is where Lily starts working in honey production, finds out a lot about her past and gets to know the real meaning of the word family. The story is told in a radio drama format.
